Why do we hurry to grow up and become adults?
Funnily enough, what we ran in fast forward were the best moments—times of life.
Sure, the future presents opportunity and glory, but memories of all that went well provide comfort to the soul.
Yet, we are always battling the present and worrying what’s next.
Things will never be the same.
It would be boring if they were really the same!
We try hard to recreate the memories of the times gone by.
Do reunions… only to fail.
Times will never be the same,
The time travel we try, down the memory lane, starts with a foundation too frail to stand.
Yet we try!
We try hard to fit into the clothes and shoes that won’t fit anymore.
Once more to feel & live the times we once skipped in fast forward.
We chase shadows of laughter that echoed in hallways we’ll never walk again.
We scroll through old photos, trying to climb back into frames that captured moments, not feelings.
We traded scraped knees and ice cream trucks for responsibilities and alarm clocks.
Somehow, the exchange rate feels unfair now.
So we build monuments to yesterday while today slips through our fingers like sand.
Yesterday, we walked through storms and called it fun.
Didn’t care about the rain. Didn’t notice we were soaked.
Today’s weather is perfect, and we still complain.
We build monuments to yesterday while today slips through our fingers like sand.
Just like everything else we ignored while it was happening.
Nostalgia. You bitch
You sweet, soul-crushing, time-twisting emotionally draining bitch!
